Bye Bye Balboni

Few random notes for a Wednesday morning...

Regardless of who you're rooting for, Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw deserved to be suspended. You leave the bench area during an altercation, it's 1 game. That's it. If you want to argue the rule, that's one thing. But a rule is rule, regardless of regular season or playoffs.

On the flip side, Robert Horry also deserved to be suspended, but 2 games is too much for a hard foul. I mean come on, he was just doing what we all wanted to do – shove that little Canadian to the floor!

I've always been a Big Shot Rob fan, now I like him even more.

Man, we gotta win tonight! Can't let the Suns off the hook the Commish put them on.

GOSPURSGO!

...

Congratulations to Chicago Bears 4th-round pick Garret Wolfe. The 5'7" RB out of Northwestern became the first out of 155 players to sign a contract with his new team.

GOBEARSGO!

...

Carlos Zambrano gets absolutely torched by the lowly Pirates last week and then bounces back against the high-powered Mets, tossing 8 innings of 1 run baseball leading the Cubs to a 10-1 victory in the Big Apple on Tuesday.

And guess what, Sweet Lou knew it was coming. Check out this Scouts, Inc note from Sunday…

May. 13 : Manager Lou Piniella watched Zambrano's side session Saturday and predicted a new look in his next outing Tuesday, reports the Chicago Tribune. "He's working on shortening his arc a little bit and staying closed a little longer," Piniella said. "Makes everything more compact, and what you'll see from now on is a more aggressive pitcher."

How bout that! Huge win for the Cubbies... and a huge start from Big Z on both of my fantasy teams.

Ellner, if you're reading this (and we both know you are) you're doomed on both our bets. Just pay up now.

For those out there reading this, a Royals fan I work with bet me $50 the Cubs wouldn't finish .500 and another $50 the Royals would finish within 15 games of the Cubs.

Not happening. I'll let you out right now for $75 total.

GOCUBSGO!

...

Since it's a rare occasion we're EVER on the topic of the Royals, today's Stat Of the Day comes straight from Kansas City (courtesy of Mr. Phil Dvorak and his famous fan club)…

No player in the history of the KC Royals organization has ever hit over 36 HRs in a season. Never. Not once. Steve Balboni hit a whopping 36 in 1985.

...

And finally, congrats to the Utah Jazz. I'm sure the team is happy their summer vacation has been postponed for a week until they get bounced by the Spurs/Suns winner. At least the Warriors can start relaxing.

Because of a stupid "bench-leaving" rule, the NBA has taken away the competiveness and excitement that comes with an All-Star semifinal matchup. In fact, the NBA has just handed the series to the Spurs. And lets not forget that Mr. Anderson is a Spurs fan, and not bias in any way.

Also, thanks for the credit on the stat of the day.

Contrary to 'Popular Opinion' - I'm referring to Eric's first line of his latest ramblings - It DOES matter who you're rooting for when it comes to whether or not Diaw and Stouda-WHINER(that's for you, E) deserved to get benched. I'd be willing to bet my life savings that Eric would be in aggreement with 90% of the country on whether or not the suspensions were warranted! And if I here 'Rules are Rules' one more time, I may start eating Mayonaisse! Discretion should have been used by this hack fucking commissioner. And by the way EEEEEEEEE, the rule is 'leave the vicinity of the bench'... HIS ASS DID NOT, I REPEAT, NOT DO THAT. But whatever... Bulls in 7. Oh, and CHRISTOPHER DAYTON ELLNER is the one who emailed you on the Great Steve Balboni stat. Please don't give credit where credit ISN'T due. Royals, Chiefs, Bulls Fan.

A Chicago Cubs fan can not, with a straight face, make fun of any sports organization that has won a championship in the last 25 years.

Stat of the day: Next year, the Cubs will celebrate the 100th anniversay of the last time they won a world series... 1908.

Stat of the day: The last time the Chicago Bears won a Superbowl, the Royals won the World Series. So technically, the Royals are just as well run as the Bears.

So it's official... Eric Anderson is now David Stern's biggest fan... Although, it wasn't the perfect decision for Eric when he suspended Stoudamire... Eric would have suspended Nash for getting up and going after the guy who just tried to put him in a wheel chair... but that's not my point. He is now trying to censor ME! I have been instructed to "tone it down" with the language. Yes, I did, on VERY FEW occasions, use a couple of words that some might call 'curse words'. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the weak-minded, morally righteous, and easily offended. I am sorry and will never use the F-Bomb again. I will replace it with either Fudge, Frack, or Frick. Shiite will be replaced with Doo-Doo, Poopy, or crap. Oh, and I know Mr. Anderson loved my Stats of the Day.

Trivia for the Day: Only two pitchers in the history of baseball have won the Cy Young Award 4 years in a row. Without cheating, ERIC! Name them...

Willie Wilson is a God. Not THE God, but A God.

Stat of the Day: Over 3,000 hits, Over 300 homers, Over 600 doubles, Over 100 triples, and Over 200 stolen bases.

Only 1 player in the history of baseball has accomplished this... Ty Cobb? Babe Ruth? Joe Dimaggio? Mickey Mantle? Barry Bonds?

Nope....... GEORGE BRETT.
